Island Living
As part of Anna Maria Island, residents of the city of Holmes Beach enjoy access to all of the island’s cultural venues and wildlife-viewing opportunities. Species commonly spotted on the island include pelicans, sand pipers, herons, cranes, hawks, seagulls, vultures and crows. The adjacent island of Key Royal, which is within the Holmes Beach city limits, is connected to the city via a bridge.
History of Holmes Beach
Named after Jack Holmes, who arrived on Anna Maria Island following World War II before developing a 600-acre community in the area that is now Holmes Beach, the city was finally incorporated in 1950. While early residents had to cut back lush jungle growth in order to develop the area, the city is now home to thousands of residential units and a diverse population of diverse residents. At the same time, Holmes Beach is a popular tourist destination offering a wide variety of vacation rentals for those who want to escape to the island’s crystal white beaches and comfortable year-round temperatures.
For the water aficionado, Holmes Beach real estate has much to offer. Not only does the city boast three miles of white-sand beaches, but it also offers easy access to the Intracoastal Waterway. Additional beaches and emerald waters can be found throughout the 7 mile long Anna Maria Island.
