South Gate is a large deed-restricted neighborhood located in one of the best locations of central Sarasota. Development began in 1955 and continued till the 1970s. The majority of the properties are single-story, ranch-style homes. It is a highly sought after area because of the proximity to downtown, shopping, and world-class beaches. It is also in a very desirable school district. Residents enjoy access to the Southgate Community Center which was dedicated in 1956. The building hall and pool here are designated as historical sites by Sarasota County.
